Abstract
This chapter offers insights into insect production activities in Europe and provides an overview of the main EU legislative provisions applying to the production and consumption of insects and products thereof in Europe, both for food and feed applications. The last part elaborates on the main missions, activities and political messages of the International Platform of Insects for Food & Feed (IPIFF). The elements outlined throughout this chapter are mainly based on information collected through the IPIFF contacts: the content of this chapter does therefore not necessarily provide a complete representation of the current status of the sector. Whilst it mainly draws on objective information, this chapter also contains pieces which solely represent the views of the organisation.
