Abstract

Humans have up to five million hair strands that can be categorized into three different types: lanugo hair, vellus hair, and terminal hair Lai-Cheong (Medicine 41:317–320, 2013). Lanugo hair is only present for a small part of our lives and is soon shed after birth. Vellus hair is fine and soft in texture and is found all over the surface of the body. Terminal hair is longer and coarser and is only found on certain parts of the body such as the scalp, beard, and axillae.
