Abstract

Endometriosis is characterized by the growth of endometrial tissue, containing both glands and stroma, in an ectopic location, outside the uterine limits. Deep endometriosis is a particular form of endometriosis defined when the endometrial tissue infiltrates more than 5 mm into the anatomical structure, either the peritoneal surface or the viscera.
