Abstract
A cerebral aneurysm is an abnormal outpouching of a diseased vessel wall of an intracranial artery. The annual risk of aneurysm rupture, based on the International Study of Unruptured Intracranial Aneurysms, is approximately 0.7% per year. Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) from an intracranial aneurysm rupture has a 40% 30-day fatality rate. Cerebral aneurysms can be treated with simple coil placement, balloon remodeling, stent-assisted coiling, flow diversion, and intrasaccular flow diversion. Two randomized control trials in patients presenting with SAH showed a better outcome with endovascular coiling in comparison with surgical clip placement.
