Abstract
The number of patients requiring dialysis is rapidly growing due to higher rates of cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Most North American patients are dialyzed via a prosthetic graft or an autogenous (native) fistula. These surgically created accesses all eventually fail, most frequently due to venous stenosis. The endovascular specialist plays a key role in maintaining and potentially creating access. In order to understand which treatment to perform, it is important to understand the type of access being treated, location of pathology, and treatment options available.
