Abstract

Physician use of social media is ever increasing. Since the beginning of the widespread use of social media in 2005, the use of social media in US adults has increased to 87% in a 2014 study. There is widespread adoption of several social media platforms, but no generalized consensus on the best way to utilize each platform for a physician’s practice. This chapter looks at the history of social media and its impact on surgeons and provides insight into who should use it and why and how.
