A Complex Case of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in an Adult

Abstract

Once considered to be a childhood disorder, it is now considered to be a common disorder in adults. Often not recognized as a distinct entity due to comorbidity, ADHD is underrecognized and treated. According to available studies, adult ADHD is a frequently occurring neurobiological disorder with significant comorbidities and a substantial impact on the individuals functioning across the life spectrum. Compared to childhood ADHD, the prevalence of adult ADHD is less well studied. (Willcutt, Neurotherapeutics 9(3):490–499, 2012). The use of multiple steps is important in assessing and diagnosing adult ADHD. The use of rating scales is highly recommended and includes input from parents, family members, and preferably school records. It is critical to diagnose adult ADHD due to impact on patients’ lives as a whole. In the management of adult ADHD, various pharmacological and psychological interventions are available, and it is highly recommended to follow any available clinical guidelines.
