Abstract
Primary malignant tumors can arise from different cellular lines of the liver such as hepatocytes and bile duct epithelium. However, secondary malignant tumors are the most common liver malignancies. Malignant hepatic tumors are more common than benign ones. Primary and secondary malignancies are the most common indication for liver imaging. Imaging techniques that are available include contrast-enhanced ultrasonography, CT, and MRI. We review the application of these techniques in the diagnosis and staging of liver malignancies. Pancreatic adenocarcinoma is a common gastrointestinal malignancy that has poor prognosis and for which successful surgical resection is the only method of cure. However surgery is feasible only in early stage cancer. Recent technological advances in CT and MRI technology further improve the performance of CT and MRI scanners resulting in early detection of pancreatic cancer and proper staging.
