Fracture Reduction and Fixation Techniques

Abstract

In case of fracture dislocation of proximal interphalangeal joint (PIP), the indication for surgery is a non-concentric PIP joint. If a concentric reduction can be achieved (flexing the joint), a dorsal block splint in flexion for several weeks can be advised. External fixation devices are available to maintain reduction whilst allowing early motion. If over 40–50% of the joint surface is involved, open surgery is mandatory to restore the joint congruity. We will present the ORIF technique for recent fracture and joint dislocation.
