Abstract

The reported incidence of patent ductus arteriosus is about 1 per 1200–3500 live births or about 10% of all patients with congenital heart disease, with a ~2:1 female to male predominance. This chapter describes the anatomy and physiology of this disease, the primary modalities used for diagnosis, and the options and indications for surgical or percutaneous intervention in adult patients.
