Neo-Omphaloplasty in Dermolipectomies: Personal Technique

Abstract

The umbilicus remains the only scar considered normal in the body structure, and today it is included as a fundamental component of abdominal beauty. Since the beginning of the twentieth century, many surgeons have developed various techniques for neo-omphaloplasty, classified mostly in two large groups: circular techniques and non-circular techniques. With my personal technique described herein, a variant of the group of circular techniques, I try to recreate the shape, position, depth, and aesthetic cicatrization of the umbilicus, obtaining navels with a natural appearance that are pleasing to patients. The difference in my technique is in the design of deinsertion of the original umbilicus during the elevation of the abdominal flap and in the design made in the flap already advanced to the pubis. Using this technique, we can obtain a neo-navel, with the desired shape and size, usual position, adequate depth and, above all, with an external scar without any tension that presents minimal complications.
