Abstract

This chapter discusses the clinical presentation and incidence of complications from inherited bleeding disorders during pregnancy including von Willebrand disease, hemophilia, and the factor deficiencies: fibrinogen, prothrombin, factor V, factor VII, factor VIII, factor IX, factor X, factor XI, and factor XIII. The chapter states the changes in coagulation factor levels in normal pregnancy and describes the interaction of pregnancy with inherited bleeding disorders. General principles of management are discussed including testing and diagnosis and anesthetic considerations for labor and delivery.
