Abstract
Principals deal with change every day. As they respond to these short- and long-term quandaries, principals must understand the changes that confront them in order to demonstrate knowledge about the process of change, ask the right questions to gain information, and make decisions that will yield positive outcomes. This chapter begins with a real-life scenario exemplifying multiple quandaries around current issues dealing with change. The chapter shares important perspectives on leading effective change including insight into first- and second-order change and key perspectives and viewpoints from renowned authors on change. Using these frames and strategies, a principal faced with quandaries can identify skillful responses and strategically put them into practice as they lead stakeholders and navigate change in their schools.
