Abstract
In several conditions of the lower urinary tract, a combined anatomical and functional assessment is essential. Video Urodynamics (VUD), a combination of urethrocystometry and voiding cystourethrography (VCUG), fulfills these requirements. The combination of these two methods dates back to the 1950s and underwent further development during the following decades (Enhornig et al. 1964; Bates et al. 1970; Hinman and Earl 1979; Marks and Goldman 2014). Until the 1980s there was no widespread utilization (Marks and Goldman 2014). The name was given since an analog portable fluoroscopy unit (C-arm) was used in combination with an oscilloscope for pressure recordings. Using appropriate electronic devices, both signals (fluoroscopy and pressure recordings) could be displayed on the same screen – hence the name Video Urodynamics (Marks and Goldman 2014).
