Abstract

This chapter provides descriptive, exploratory, and reflective text about the role of nurses in the care of the person with skin lesions in the services that are part of the Brazilian healthcare network, particularly in primary care. The following data collection techniques were used: field diary, empirical observation, consultation of secondary data and records from clinical care, participation in clinical and management activities, and life stories. The development of the analysis was oriented based on the life experiences of the authors in their care of persons with skin lesions, constituting itself as a theoretical and empirical essay. The chapter includes results from the research entitled “Integrated research on work organization and integrality of the services: new technologies in the care of the client with skin lesion on the health care network in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.” The narrative contributes with discussions and reflections on the importance of the nursing professional in the care of persons with skin lesion, witnessing the evolution of its performance at different levels of health care, with emphasis on primary health care as a resolute point of attention and as the basis for the management flow in dermatology, aiming to overcome cloistered practice in hospitals and the training of staff to care for the skin at different levels of the healthcare network. The report also aims to encourage the participation of the patients and families to take responsibility for their care, strengthening the nursing role in favor of the healthcare network.

Notes

  1. 1.

Although they have distinct meanings and epistemological origins, both expressions (“primary” and “basic”) will be used in this text, as synonyms, given that, to the subject in question, do not apply the discussion about technological density, cost and nature of the procedure. In this case, it is an act of care that is listed on the scope of practices of the primary health care policy of the Brazilian National Health System and is not developed in all teams, involving matters related to the training of professionals and insufficient technical and material resources, as discussed below.
