Superior Gluteal Nerve Entrapment

  • Chapter
Peripheral Nerve Entrapments

Abstract

The superior gluteal nerve (SGN) entrapped between the piriformis and gluteus medius muscles may be responsible for pain referred to the buttocks and lower leg. This pain is distinguished by its location. This entrapment syndrome is usually treated with a local anesthetic/steroid injection; if the pain returns, neuroablation may be performed.
