Ocular Surface Disease

Abstract

One of the major conditions looming in the background of many eye diseases, particularly in ocular surface disease, is obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Recognizing the signs and symptoms of OSA is critical for every practicing ophthalmologist given the major impact it has on the patient’s cardiovascular health. Only recently have we begun to appreciate its impact on many ocular diseases. The following three real cases highlight the importance of OSA in ophthalmology and underline the need for considering OSA in every case by using appropriate screening questions and referring the patient for definitive diagnosis and management.
