Abstract

This chapter is divided into two parts: (A) congenital problems and (B) acquired problems.

  1. A.

    Congenital Problems: Patients with anorectal malformations do not die from the anorectal malformation itself, but rather because of renal problems, which sometimes are congenital and sometimes are exacerbated or produced by mismanagement, particularly during the repair of the anorectal malformation. Statistics are presented of the association of different urologic problems. The chapter also has a series of recommendations to suspect, diagnose, and treat the most prominent and dangerous urologic conditions associated with anorectal malformations.

  2. B.

    Acquired Problems: In the acquired urologic problems, examples are presented of neurogenic bladder and different errors that occur mainly while trying to repair an anorectal malformation without a correct diagnosis.
