Abstract
What is conventionally referred to as the Middle Ages is the historic period which goes from the end of the fifth century to the end of the fifteenth AD. We shall have to deal with the development undergone by our question over the course of ten centuries. Whilst our excursion among the works of the Fathers of the Church was facilitated by the fact that most of them attended to an elucidation of the Bible and, often Genesis in particular, the research concerning the commentators of subsequent centuries (from the sixth on) appears more complicated.
