Abstract
Laparoscopic abdominal perineal resection involves resection of the sigmoid colon, rectum, and anus with the surrounding pelvic floor musculature. An end colostomy is created. It is commonly performed for low rectal cancer or recurrent anal cancer. Occasionally, it is performed for inflammatory bowel disease or a gynecological malignancy.
