Abstract

In 33 Days (2007), Mai examines the impact of war on civilians during the summer of 2006 when Israel launched an attack on Lebanon after two Israeli soldiers were captured by Hezbollah. The film takes place in two action locations in Beirut: inside a theatre where dozens of displaced children find a home; and inside a TV station where journalists form the narrative of the war from colleagues on the front line sending in reports of horror too searing to transmit. A collective Lebanese response transforms the country.
