Abstract
This chapter describes Clinical and Research Experiences Across Europe Using the SCORE as an Indicator of Family Functioning and is based on the symposium with that title in the International Systemic Research Conference, Heidelberg, 2017. The crucial importance of being able to report the outcomes of systemic couple and family therapies (SCFT) is discussed and some of the difficulties identified. Following an overview of the development and validation of the different versions of SCORE, the symposium and this chapter follow the timeline of the development and use of SCORE first in the UK and then during the decade of research in Ireland led by Alan Carr, followed by more recent studies in Poland, Portugal and Spain, and Italy (In addition to the authors, this chapter draws on the contributions to the SCORE symposium of Margarida Vilaça, Anna Paula Relvas, Roberto Pereira, Feliks Matusiak, Barbara Jozefik, and Daniele Paolini). We present wider studies of the uses of SCORE in Europe by the EFTA Research Committee as a project led by Peter Stratton and Luigi Schepisi. Finally, we review areas of potential in developments of SCORE measures, possible research projects, and use of SCORE in clinical interventions.
