Abstract

Perennial submerged plant, thin, cylindrical, fragile, poorly branched stem, trinity of leaves in regular whorls, rooted in the sediment. Shoots 10–70 cm long, unbranched roots 5–30 cm long, adventitious roots at shoot bases, root hairs. Oblong leaves 5–16 mm long, leaf apices obtuse, leaves with two cell layers, dioecious plant: female solitery flowers float on the surface on peduncle (10–40 cm). Overwintering in apical dormant turions attached to the shoot.
