Abstract
The growing acceptance of new technologies, along with trends focused on reducing the use of paper and facilitating access to information, make mobile applications increasingly important. In order to solve current demands, we want to create an attractive way to share information and offer a tool to educate people at the same time.
The main objective of this work is to provide tourists and users in general with a mobile application that provides information about the birds that inhabit the town of Mindo. This mobile application will provide multimedia content and with the use of Augmented Reality the user will be given the option to interact between the virtual objects and the environment, it also will provide the option to share this experiences with other people via social networks to enrich user experience when practicing birdwatching.
To develop the prototype application, we used native android, ARCore as the AR engine, geolocation services with Google’s maps API, cloud services with Firebase to store the data and, in the mobile device, internal storage and SQLite to work offline.
