Abstract
Asteroids are objects that are mainly composed of rocky and metallic material, are generally accepted to be debris left over from the formation of the solar system. The exact composition varies with the asteroid, but in addition to rocky material, asteroids may contain metals and volatiles including organic material. A volatile is a substance with a significantly lower boiling point than rocky material. A substance with a higher boiling point is called a refractory.
