Abstract
The present unipolar world order is shifting towards a multipolar configuration of international relations. The growing importance of China’s economy in international trade and the impact this will have on international relations are discussed. The BRI is a globalizing force through the externalization of China’s domestic economy by reducing barriers to trade. The successful implementation of the BRI is expected to enhance China’s economic and political power, which however will create a counter push. Policies of sanctions and their effectiveness to maintain the present unipolar world order and the imposition of tariffs to prevent China from rising and the possible implications for international relations will also be discussed. Regime Changes also may cause possible obstacles to the BRI.
