Abstract

In this chapter, the reciprocal relationship between mental health and sexual health is outlined. Social stigma and its impact for identity processes are considered. Following a discussion of key empirical research into mental and sexual health among gay men, a model for predicting health outcomes and preventing poor mental and sexual health in this population is described. This chapter explores the epidemiological, psychological and socio-structural factors that can impinge on health outcomes in gay men.
