Abstract
In certain elected patients with an acetabular fracture, primary total hip arthroplasty during the index hospital admission can be accomplished without a concomitant open reduction internal fixation of the acetabulum. These patients need to be carefully selected ahead of time to make sure that ORIF will not be required prior to placement of an acetabular component.
One of the advantages of this technique is that the surgeons’ usual preferred approach for total hip arthroplasty can many times be utilized regardless of the fracture pattern.
