Abstract

Sodium fluoride labeled with fluorine 18 (sodium fluoride F18 [18F-NaF]) is a bone seeking positron-emitting radiopharmaceutical tracer. 18F-NaF PET/CT provides great sensitivity and specificity in the detection of bone metastases. Uptake of 18F sodium fluoride reflects blood flow and bony remodeling. When combining with the CT component of the PET/CT, it allows better morphologic characterization of the functional findings and achieves more accurate differentiation with improved specificity.
