Abstract
Ask any enthusiast about the strengths of the ShortTube 80, and he or she will likely cite its prowess as an excellent, ultra-portable rich field telescope. Its decent (80-mm) aperture, short focal length, and ability to use interchangeable eyepieces, makes it a near ideal telescope for scanning the Milky Way, looking for bright open clusters, nebulae, and galaxies. The 80-mm aperture collects about 175 times more light than the naked eye can, allowing observers to observe stars as faint as magnitude +12.5 from a dark, rural site with no Moon in the sky.
