Abstract

Endoscopic ultrasound with fine-needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) is a minimally invasive procedure that is safe, effective, and accurate in pancreatic tissue diagnosis. This is especially important when diagnosing pancreatic cancer, as early detection of pancreatic malignancy improves prognosis. EUS is currently the most sensitive imaging modality for detecting pancreatic lesions. Tissue sampling can differentiate between benign and malignant lesions. However, successful EUS-FNA is dependent on the skill of the performing endoscopist and requires multiple considerations, including position of the echoendoscope and target lesion, number of passes to take, needle choice, and availability of on-site cytopathology.
