Abstract
A frenum is defined as a fold of membrane that secures or restricts the motion of a mobile organ of the body. There are several frena located in the oral cavity but the two most likely requiring surgical intervention are the maxillary labial frenum and the lingual frenum. The purpose of this chapter is to discuss the indications for a frenectomy and to describe surgical treatment options.
