Abstract

Late diagnosis in patients with X-linked agammaglobulinemia (XLA) is associated with irreversible pulmonary complications such as bronchiectasis

  • Simple screening methods, such as serum protein fractions may be useful in suspecting of antibody deficiency

  • Medical treatment for XLA is by lifelong immunoglobulin replacement using Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) or subcutaneous immunoglobulin (SCIG)

  • Use of plasma for immunoglobulin substitution is dangerous due to possibility of transmission of blood-borne infections

  • It is necessary to remember the inexpediency of serological tests is suspicion of infections and using only direct methods of detecting the pathogen
