Abstract

In this chapter Rédai introduces Marzipan Baker and Cakemaker School, the site of her fieldwork for this book. She presents the educational profile of Marzipan and data about its teachers and students, as well as the broader educational context, with specific attention to the structural factors that contribute to the reproduction of social inequalities in Hungarian secondary education. Then she discusses some methodological and ethical issues the research process brought up. She reflects on her positioning as a researcher of sexuality in this particular school and how her subjectivity may have affected her respondents’ discourses. In the last section she discusses some difficulties, unexpected situations and dilemmas she encountered in the field as a feminist researcher.
