Notes

  1. 1.

EL.P.ET. Balkaniki S.A. is a company jointly controlled by Hellenic Petroleum S.A. (63%) and Consortium of banks APE (37%) (OKTA Crude Oil Refinery A.D., 2014, p. 13).

  2. 2.

In the 2000s, interest to purchase the company was shown by the Russian-Israeli-British company Balkan Petroleum Holding Limited with very shady businesspeople and oligarchs Uri Bider (Isreali), Vasili Evdokimov (British), Mikhail Chorny (Russian), and Serhiy Kurchenko (Ukrainian) behind it. Later in 2016, two Russian millionaires, Alexander Kaplan and Alexander Smuzikov (ex-TNK-BP employees), also expressed interest in buying out Makpetrol A.D. As it currently stands, nothing has been realized (Casule & Zhdannikov, 2016; ‘Кои се луѓето’, 2016).
