Abstract
This chapter contains a detailed case study of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The chapter starts with an introduction and then presents the upstream, midstream, and downstream sections of the country’s oil value chain. These detailed sections provide much-needed insight into the oil sector of the country and are followed with information on Russian involvement and operations in its oil market. The chapter then concludes with an evaluation of the research indicators showing Russian activity in the oil sector of the country.

- 1.
See detailed information about the JANAF system in the chapter on Croatia.
- 2.
The city of Brod is divided by the Sava River, which also forms the border between Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Northern (Croatian) section of the city is called Slavonski Brod and the Southern (Bosnia and Herzegovina) section was first called Bosanski Brod, then Srpski Brod during the war, and was eventually renamed Brod with no prefix in 2009.
- 3.
The Hungarian MOL Rt owns 49.08% of the shares in INA—Industrija nafte d.d.
- 4.
- 5.
The eventual restart of the Brod Refinery in 2008 was against Croatia’s interests, and Croatia tried to secure a better environment for INA d.d. by pricing OAO Zarubezhneft’s crude oil imports to Brod higher than INA d.d.’s imports to Croatia. The Russian Embassies in Sarajevo and Zagreb were a mitigating influence, and the Russian Embassy in Croatia negotiated a lower price (Tepavcevic, 2015, p. 47).
- 6.
The Russian Federation withdrew all troops from these missions and froze all NATO-Russia military and political cooperation after the NATO air campaign in Serbia in 1999 (Nikitin, 2004).
