Abstract
Extremist manifestations among young people makes revealing the predictors, which may foresee the possibility of getting them involved in extremist and terroristic groups, important nowadays. The current study examined the predictors of extremist attitudes (fanatical, nationalistic and xenophobic ones) and of authoritarianism of young men depending on their position in the family relations system of a parental family. The analyzed sample consisted of 109 young men (from 18 to 30 years old, the average age is 21,8). The following methods have been used: the extremist destructive personality setting method by K.V. Zlokazov, the modified psycho-geometrics questionnaire by S. Dellinger, the method of “Social sociogram” by E.G. Ehjdemiller. The main predictors of the young men’ nationalistic attitudes were singled out: egocentric position in the family relations system and the position of an only child. High importance of a father with distance in relations with him, a limited circle of family contacts and low significance of siblings have been brought out as the predictors of xenophobic attitudes. The major predicators of migrant-phobia and Islamophobia are a limited circle of family contacts and positive emotional attitude to oneself. The authoritarianism predicators include high importance attributed to a mother and the absence of distance in the relations with her combined with emotionally negative attitude to the family in the whole and low self-esteem. The regression analysis used to provide the statistic analysis of the data proves the high explanatory potential of the received patterns.
