Abstract
Most skin conditions in the USA are first seen by a primary care clinician. Like every other category of disorders, a good history and physical and overall pattern recognition can help make an accurate diagnosis. The overall range of dermatologic conditions is very extensive, but the majority of skin lesions seen in primary care office fall into a group of common disorders. Developing a good approach to the patient with a skin condition can help make an accurate diagnosis and, even if the patient needs referral, can lead to clearer communication between clinicians who care for these patients.
