Abstract
The Are You Ready? student online-learning readiness course is a self-paced course housed on the Blackboard learning-management system (LMS) with the goal of encouraging students’ success in the online environment by offering the opportunity to assess their readiness to enroll in online courses and learn the fundamental skills required to be an online learner. The course covers how to use the various technology and learning tools in the Blackboard LMS, as well as other essential skills such as time management and online netiquette. This chapter provides an overview of the challenges, research, and approach taken to develop the successful and award-winning Are You Ready? course. It also covers how this course has established a continuous improvement approach by forming a consortium with other CUNY colleges who have adopted the course.
