Abstract
Epidemiologic studies need to be carefully planned before they begin. This is true for any kind of study, be it a simple sample survey, a study of one of the types defined in Sect. 15.2, or a community study as described in Sect. 24.1. The plan of the study, which is also called the “study protocol”, must cover all its aspects and stages.
The basic ideas of epidemiologic studies were treated in the preceding lessons, both in a general context and within the framework of specific health outcomes or specific risk factors . However, in practice, many details need to be observed.
