Abstract
The chapter by Alexandra Kaasch deals with the question of the way in which attention is given to the social situation and needs of children in the context of the global economic crisis. It asks about the key actors (i.e. international organisations) that engage with the needs and rights of children. This includes the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), the World Bank, the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The organisations are compared as to the different ways and degrees of the role children are given in global social policy discourses in the context of the global economic crisis.
