Abstract
Spindle cell lesions of the prostate are encountered infrequently in clinical practice but represent a broad spectrum of diagnostically challenging lesions with varying clinical significance. The spindle cell lesions encompass both primary and secondary processes. A subset of these lesions is thought to be derived from the hormone-responsive stroma of the prostate gland, including stromal hyperplasia, stromal tumors of uncertain malignant potential (STUMP), and prostate stromal sarcoma (PSS). The utility of ancillary studies, including immunohistochemistry, is often limited, and the diagnosis relies on careful morphological evaluation.
