Abstract
When we think of a wave, we think for instance of waves in water. Or we consider a rope on the table that is excited by swiftly pulling it up and down, resulting in a wave that moves towards the other end of the rope. So to get a wave we need something that we call a medium: water or the rope. The medium carries the wave.
