Abstract
The chapter summarizes the main arguments of the book and draws attention to the terms of recognizability, enactment, and livability of same-sex desire, and how gay Iranian men find ways to accommodate their existence under historically specific conditions of disavowal and criminalization of homosexuality. It also discusses the need to go beyond binary thought of utopia/dystopia when addressing the livability and interpretive questions of quality of life for gay-identifying men in a transnational context such as Iran.

The World Economic Forum has also published a list of the ten gay-friendliest countries. See World Economic Forum, July 8, 2015.

It needs to be emphasized that the voices and embodied experience of my informants presented in this book provide only some insight into the livability of gay-identifying men in Iran. Thus, I do not claim to be giving a representative account of being gay in Iran.
