Abstract
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a significant public health burden. Although management is usually successful with lifestyle modification and medical therapy, several important indications exist for surgical intervention. This chapter discusses the approach to surgical management of this disease with a focus on the decisions a surgeon must make when treating these patients. We describe our approach to the initial workup for a patient being considered for possible surgery. We then describe the details of the myriad procedures described for this disease.
