Abstract

Space astronomy finds itself in the particular situation of joining astronomy and astronautics, that is, one of the most ancient scientific disciplines with one of the most recent ones. We know, in fact, and we have repeatedly stressed it in this book as well, that astronomy, intended as the human inclination to look at the sky and try to understand how it works, is so ancient that we cannot date it back to a precise date, but its origins can surely be traced back to prehistoric times.
