LMS 3.0: A Collaborative Learning Management System Based on Web 3.0 Concepts

Abstract

Over the last years, collaborative learning has been introduced as a solution to the lack of sufficient support to the large number of students in e-learning environments, particularly LMS (Learning Management System). Nevertheless, current collaborative learning puts a heavy emphasis on group discussion, but provides inadequate support for individual learners to promote teamwork during the whole learning process. The aim of this chapter is to propose an intelligent LMS based on Web 3.0 concepts and able to improve student’s collaboration in higher education context. The intelligent LMS called “LMS 3.0” is based on emergent technologies used in the Web 3.0 era. It integrates a multi-agents system responsible to the tracking of the levels of collaboration and productivity of each student and group, and therefore aids tutors to make optimal decisions to encourage collaborative learning. On the other hand, in order to optimize the large-scale resource management, the proposed LMS 3.0 is based on a cloud computing architecture.
