Abstract

Before analysing the rules governing sporting nationality in the context of EU law, I devote a special chapter to the ECJ’s judgment in Meca-Medina & Majcen, which is significant from several perspectives. First, it definitely brought sporting rules into the scope of EU law while demising the purely sporting rules exception (4.1). Second, the ECJ summarised and clarified the up to date case law regarding the assessment of the compatibility of sporting rules with EU law.
