Abstract
This review summarizes recent X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) studies for interfacial perpendicular magnetic anisotropy . The nature of chemical bonding and electron occupancies bring novel properties at the interfaces. The control of orbital magnetic moments could enable to reveal and utilize novel promising phenomena beyond spintronics . Detailed investigations of anisotropic orbital magnetic moments at the interfaces in Fe|MgO and Co|Pd cases are discussed with brief introduction of theoretical background of XMCD spectra and brief history of this technique.
