Abstract
In this chapter, the editors provide an overview to readers about the general scope and intent of this compilation. They explain the meaning behind its title, as well as why investigations of “suffering in teaching” are remarkably rare and often discouraged in the field of teaching. Editors Steel and Homeniuk share with readers some stories about the difficulties as well as pleasant surprises they encountered while compiling this work, and they discuss these observations in order to determine what light such things might shed upon further exploration of the topic itself.
